Have you ever been in desperate need of something in life, but still felt hesitant? As if you were making du‘ā but feared it might not be accepted?
In this episode of Muslimi Expo, Shaykh Ibrahim Jaaber shares a message of hope.
He is a creative writer and poet.
He has performed in five continents and has been published in Art of Poetry.
He also teaches a course called Unlocked the Pen of the Writer Within.
Shaykh Jaaber begins the session with something close to his heart — poetry.
Tell Flash that I am ready to clash
Tell Superman when I raise my hands to the sky
I can invoke the power of the Most High
I don’t need a cape to fly
I am better than Bruce Wayne on a dark night
I’ve got enough faith in my heart to spark light
When I was brought into this life it was already written
That it was gonna be a hard fight
So my mother taught me how to call upon God’s might
Because when Allah strikes, He doesn’t miss
Just raise your palms high to the sky just like this
And ask Allah for whatever you wish
This poem sets the tone.
It shows that du‘ā is not just a request — it is a superpower rooted in faith.
Shaykh Jaaber follows the poem by reflecting on a powerful āyah from the Qur’an:
وَلَوْ أَنَّ قُرْءَانًا سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ ٱلْجِبَالُ أَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضُ أَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ ۗ بَل لِّلَّهِ ٱلْأَمْرُ جَمِيعًا
“If there were a recitation that could cause mountains to move, or the earth to split, or the dead to speak, it would have been this Qur’an. But all matters are by Allah’s will.”
He explains that even if such miracles appeared, some people would still ignore them.
Today, people often look for signs or wonders.
But Allah has already gifted us something far more powerful — du‘ā.
Du‘ā Turns Back Wrath
Allah says in Surah Al-Anfāl:
وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
“Nor would He ever punish them if they prayed for forgiveness.”
This verse shows how seeking forgiveness through du‘ā can protect us from harm.
Du‘ā is more than asking — it shields and guards the believer.
The Power of Prophet Sulayman’s Du‘ā
Shaykh Jaaber highlights how Prophet Sulayman (عليه السلام) received great power.
He controlled jinn, wind, and could speak to birds.
Even ants recognized him — all due to du‘ā.
Divine Protection in the Cave
He then speaks about the People of the Cave.
When they took refuge, their very first words were:
رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةًۭ وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًۭا
“Our Lord! Grant us mercy from Yourself and guide us rightly through our ordeal.”
Even though the cave changed from the outside, the youth were safe inside.
Their sincere du‘ā brought them divine protection.
Raising Spiritually Strong Children
Shaykh Jaaber reminds us that our goal isn’t just to raise independent children.
We must also raise them with strong faith and deep trust in Allah.
He refers to the hadith of Ibn ‘Abbas, where the Prophet ﷺ taught him to rely only on Allah.
Why Du‘ā Works
What makes du‘ā so powerful?
It’s not just the words — it’s the devotion behind them.
It’s the sincerity, the humility, and the full trust we place in our Creator.
Shaykh Jaaber is also the author of Touch of Gold, a collection of poetry inspired by the Qur’an.
His words remind us that du‘ā connects us to Allah in the most personal way.
