A Saudi official has denied recent foreign media reports suggesting the Kingdom plans to lift its long-standing ban on alcohol.
In a statement published by Arab News, the official emphasized that such claims are unconfirmed and do not reflect any existing or future government policy. “These reports lack reliable sources and are not based on official announcements,” the source clarified.
While Saudi Arabia has implemented various social and economic reforms in recent years under Vision 2030, the prohibition of alcohol remains firmly in place—particularly for Muslims. Any recent policy shifts, such as the opening of a regulated liquor store exclusively for non-Muslim diplomats, do not signify a broader change in public access or national policy.
Authorities reiterated that the Kingdom’s values, deeply rooted in Islamic teachings, continue to guide decisions on such matters. The alcohol ban will remain in effect, including during major events like the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
